Aftercare Instructions
If you have a clear Saniderm/Recoveryderm bandage on your tattoo, leave the bandage on for 3-5 days. It is normal for ink, blood, and plasma to build up under the bandage-- as long as the bandage is not leaking this is fine.
If blood and ink are leaking out of the bandage, or if shower water is getting under the bandage, remove it and begin aftercare.
To remove your bandage, peel a corner in the shower and, while running water under the bandage, pull SLOWLY at a 90 degree angle from your skin.
After removing your bandage, or if you did not use a bandage, begin washing your new tattoo 2x per day with antibacterial soap. Apply a thin layer of coconut oil or similar oil or tattoo aftercare balm after washing and a few times throughout the day. After the first week you can wash the tattoo once a day.
Keep applying the ointment/oil for several weeks. Do not use any aftercare product that has petroleum or petrolatum in it, and do not use any product with a fragrance or astringents.
No swimming/soaking for 2 weeks. Avoid public pools, hot tubs, and saunas for 6-8 weeks.
Use sun protection! During healing and forevermore. Clothing that covers the tattoo is best, but use sunscreen if you can’t cover the tattoo with clothing.
Avoid friction. Be careful of clothing or movements that rub.
If the tattoo itches, pat or gently slap and it will feel better.
You can take pain medicine like advil, tylenol, aleive, or motrin. Healing your new tattoo can be uncomfortable at times, but you should never be in severe pain.
