3. Your Tattoo Appointment
On the day of your appointment, come to Meadowlark Tattoo having eaten, having taken any prescription medication, and well rested. Tattooing is done with a rotary machine that uses needle groupings to insert ink under the skin. People react differently to tattooing, and the pain varies depending on the person, the location of the tattoo, and many other factors. I will work efficiently and carefully to ensure an excellent finished product while minimizing discomfort where possible. Depending on the size and detail of your tattoo, you may need multiple appointments to complete the piece. If you have specific questions about the tattooing process, please email me at meadowlarktattoo@gmail.com.
2. Schedule Your Tattoo
When books are open there will be a link at the bottom of this page to access the booking proposal form. Please do not inquire about booking if books are listed as closed.
When books are open, you will submit a booking proposal form that will let you describe your idea in detail, upload reference photos, etc. I will email you back with a price and booking link once I have your form. When you schedule your tattoo appointment, you will be automatically directed to make a $200 deposit— this deposit holds your appointment slot and is credited toward the final cost of your tattoo. You are asked to please read in full the “Health and Safety” section of the website prior to your tattoo appointment.
4. Take Care of Your New Tattoo
After your tattoo is complete, I will apply a sterile bandage (Recovery Derm, also called Saniderm or Tagederm) the tattoo. Leave the sterile bandage on for 3-5 days (It can go in the shower).
To remove the bandage, do NOT rip off! Go in the shower or place under running water and gently lift the edge of the bandage. Work the water under the bandage and gently ease it off your new tattoo. Wash the tattoo immediately.
After the bandage comes off, begin washing the tattoo twice a day with antibacterial soap for the first week, then once a day until healed. Use jojoba or coconut oil rubbed on the tattoo after washing and as needed to keep it hydrated but not too moist while it heals.
Do not use any product that has petroleum or petroleum derivatives in it— no Aquaphor, A&D ointment, lotion, Vaseline, etc. Do not take a bath or go swimming for at least two weeks, keep the tattoo out of the sun, and do not let pets lick or touch the tattoo. Your tattoo will heal in 3-4 weeks, though full healing can take more than a month.
